The Vaults of Yoh-Vombis (fiction)
- title: The Vaults of Yoh-Vombis
- author: Clark Ashton Smith
- publication: 1932
- pages: ~18
- setting: Mars, Old Solar System, Near Future
Summary
A team of human explorers on Mars are driven into a long-abandoned ancient Martian mausoleum to escape from one monster, only to discover an even greater horror buried in the tombs.
Comments / Trivia
- Compare to the basic plot of Alien (1979 film).
- An earlier version was called "The Vaults of Abomi", following much the same plot, but omitting some of the details of the finished story. The motive for descending into the vaults in this version appears to have been that the explorers were chased by an early version of the "Vortlup" in the form of a mat of creeping, carnivorous black moss.
