The Relic (1997 film)
Summary
"There are secrets better left unknown, and treasures better left undiscovered. In 1995, a scientific expedition found something that turns myths into nightmares...something that gives shape to fear, and form to evil...something as powerful as it is deadly. They should never have sought it. They should never have touched it. And then, they did the unthinkable...THEY BROUGHT IT BACK."

Tentacle Ratings
A rough measure of how "Lovecraftian" the work is:
- SS___ (Two Tentacles: Barely Lovecraftian; could be a very loose adaptation)
A dead mythical "god" - part fungus, part insect, part reptile - is accidentally resurrected by scientists, and goes on a brain-eating rampage in a creepy museum at night. Probably not a bad fit for a Delta Green scenario.
Note: This rating is not intended as a measure of quality, merely of how closely related to Lovecraftian "Weird" fiction the work is.

- Roger Ebert at RogerEbertdotcom (3 Stars) (link) - "All of this is actually a lot of fun, if you like special effects and gore."
- Richard Scheib at The Science Fiction, Horror and Fantasy Film Review (2.5/5 Stars) (link) - "None of the film requires you to engage your brain... Nevertheless, The Relic is one of the more worthwhile Alien imitators."
- Peter Stack at the San Francisco Chronicle (link) - "The Relic will quickly fade to video, where it might fare well as a bump-in-the-night benefiting from the fast-forward button."
- Andy Webb at The Movie Scene (3/5 Stars) (link) - "What this all boils down to is that The Relic is not a bad movie just a very ordinary one which does nothing new or better than many other creature/horror movies."
