Tentacle Ratings

A rough measure of how "Lovecraftian" the work is:

  • SS___ (Two Tentacles: Barely Lovecraftian; could be a very loose adaptation)

An unreliable narrator/viewpoint-character in the form of an unstable scholar pieces together bits of disparate knowledge, revealing an awful secret of the universe....

Note: This rating is not intended as a measure of quality, merely of how closely related to Lovecraftian "Weird" fiction the work is.

Numbers whiz Max Cohen is stunted by psychological delusions of paranoia and debilitating headaches. He lives in a messy Chinatown apartment, where he tinkers with equations and his homemade, super-advanced computer. One day, however, Cohen encounters a mysterious number. Soon after reporting his discovery to his mentor and to a religious friend, he finds himself the target of ill-intentioned Wall Street agents bent on using the number for profit.
