Treesqueak, AKA Teakettler or Squonk

Origin: American folklore

Description

The Teakettler, Treesqueak, or Squonk is a strange creature of the American woodlands, rarely seen, but frequently heard: it's names, such as, "Treesqueak" and "Teakettler", refer to the strange noises the creature is known to make in the woods when stalking lumberjacks, scouts, frontiersmen, hillfolk, and other people wandering the woods and mountains. Due to its monstrously deformed appearance, the creature is very shy and melancholy, refusing contact with all life; a Treesqueak reportedly dissolves in its own tears if ever gazed upon. Only a few people have ever seen one, but if a squeaking, whistling, squonking noise is heard and nowhere to be found, it is sure that a Teakettler is nearby.

Keeper Notes

  • Colonists on Mercury have a similar legend about a zombie-like cat encountered in the Mercurian deserts, the Cat from Mercury, which stalks its prey for days, making its pathetic crying noises from hiding, while waiting for its victim to fall asleep so that it can pounce upon his chest and steal his breath.
