Ratings

MPAA Ratings

  • Rated: (not rated) (perhaps equivalent to a G or PG for 1950s drive-in-friendly Violence)

Tentacle Ratings

A rough measure of how "Lovecraftian" the work is:

  • S____ (One Tentacle: Debateably Lovecraftian; has almost no direct connection to Lovecraft's work)

This corny monster movie isn't particularly "Lovecraftian" in tone or atmosphere (it could really have benefited from the sort of moody, restrained treatment seen in the British Quatermass film series), but the monsters (which creep up from the depths of the Earth with some sort of alien technology) wouldn't be far out of place in a Lovecraftian story.

Note: This rating is not intended as a measure of quality, merely of how closely related to Lovecraftian "Weird" fiction the work is.

Synopsis

Awakened by nuclear tests, humanoids from the depths of the Earth build dome over a deserted Los Angeles to make it slimier.

Notes

Comments, Trivia, Dedication

  • Try substituting your favorite Lovecraftian race for the "Slime People", and you have a fairly ready-made plot for a quick scenario.
  • Try substituting "Slime People" for a more generic and tired standard-issue Lovecraftian race, like Deep Ones, to shake things up a bit (that one's easy: the "Slime People" seem to basically be Deep Ones at home near the Earth's core instead of the ocean, minus the breeding program out-of-the-box, but that can be added easily enough)
