The Desh are from Fred Behrendt's "The Dark Wood".

Description

Lesser desh appear as large silvery tad- poles with limp, toothless mouths, and with a row of dark, bead-like eyes across their narrow heads. Their long limbs are tough and springy. Greater desh have slim, fish-like bodies with four long limbs knotted with cords of stringy muscle. Wide mouths bristle with curved, six-inch teeth. The top of the sleek head is crowned with a bundle of lidless, plate-shaped eyes arranged in a crescent.

Desh are extradimensional entities, well known in Hyperborea and documented in ancient Hyperborean tomes, which are made of a semi-transparent form of matter and which normally inhabit the empty spaces just beyond this world until summoned by wizards to do their bidding. Desh travel oddly through time and space, seemingly slow-moving but at the same time able to cross immense distances in an instant; they are also fragile and short-lived on this plane, deteriorating within a few days of their summoning and dying, leaving behind parts of their corpses for puzzled experts to be mystified by.
