Synopsis
The disappearances being investigated are actually caused by degenerate creatures who are the descendents of the inbred family which owned the land in Colonial times. Back in that era the family dabbled with dark magic and cannibalism and slowly became something less than human and stopped living in the family home preferring a subterranean existence. They still live on in this terrible way, entirely unbeknownst to the human inhabitants of the town.
The job of the Investigators is to unearth these creatures as the true murderers in the Motel case and pursue them back to their underground world in order to put a stop to them.

Comments
This adventure, set in 1926, can take place in any small town several miles from the nearest city. The scenario provides a sample location -- the town of Litchfield in New Hampshire (population 213).
The scenario includes a new spell, Enchant Object: Doll (Blood Variant).
The path of the Birch family's degeneration is compared to the Martense family of New York (described in Lovecraft's The Lurking Fear). The tale of degenerate inbred families reverting to a sub-human form is also reminiscent of The Warren, a scenario published as an extra (unlinked) chapter at the end of Chaosium's Shadows of Yog-Sothoth campaign.
