There's really no such thing as a "typical" investigator, given the wide range of settings, genres and stories out there. Nevertheless, some scenarios feature one or more characters (typically, but not necessarily pregens) that stand out in one way or another. Maybe they're hyperintelligent monkeys, maybe they're robots, maybe they're all the same person due to catastrophic paradoxes, maybe they're sentient mathematical entities or brains in jars.

You might love or hate them, but either way it's probably best to be warned in advance.
