Tamper Ray
Tamper Rays (AKA "Dero Tamper" or simply "Tamper") were created by Richard Sharpe Shaver in I Remember Lemuria.
Description
Tamper Rays are a lost antediluvian Dero technology used today to inflict pain and suffering on human beings, surviving as ancient, decaying devices left scattered about the vaults and tunnels of the Hollow Earth that are occupied by the lunatic Deros.
The word "tamper" is taken from the Mantong language with a similar meaning to English - literally translating as "rays for beneficial animal-control put to horrific uses" - as the name implies, these rays had positive uses at one time, but those uses are long forgotten, with those rays that could not be creatively applied to the ends of misery and torture discarded by the Deros, whose deteriorating sanity drive them to delight in torture and horror..
There are a bewildering variety of ways that Dero "Tamper" can be inflicted on the surface world, and even more ways it can be inflicted on victims who have been dragged down into the Hollow Earth by the Deros, where the rays can be applied at close range. Just a few of the possibilities include thought-control, telepathy, paralysis, levitation, memory-wiping, cancer and the common cold, earthquakes, weather control, etc. - in fact, many of the every-day ills experienced by mankind on the Earth's surface are caused by Dero Tamper.
Some favorite applications for Tamper include projecting voices into a victim's head, embedding obsessive thoughts and phobias in the victim, embedding false memories, paralyzing the victim and applying levitation to assist the Deros in abducting victims and dragging them into the underworld, selectively wiping a victim's memory, and the like - these are, of course, classic symptoms of Sleep Paralysis, alien abduction, demonic oppression, and the like.
A classic safeguard against Dero Tamper is a cap fashioned from tin foil.
