Tentacle Ratings

A rough measure of how "Lovecraftian" the work is:

  • S____ (One Tentacle: Debateably Lovecraftian; has almost no direct connection to Lovecraft's work)

At heart, this is basically an effective sci-fi/horror story about a Tentacle Monster from space ripping astronauts to pieces in zero gravity, but that would be the extent of any remotely "Lovecraftian" content.

Note: This rating is not intended as a measure of quality, merely of how closely related to Lovecraftian "Weird" fiction the work is.

Reviews

Review Links:

  • Joey Keogh at (Wicked Horror) - "Sci-fi fans will find little new here, aside from glaringly obvious nods to Gravity (2013 film), Alien (1979 film), and 2001: A Space Odyssey), among others, which will either delight or infuriate depending on how much you can buy into the central conceit."
  • Review by Brett Gallman at (Oh The Horror!) - "...A perfectly serviceable exercise in claustrophobic, monster movie space horror... However, even all that big studio luster can barely hide the cheap thrills underpinning... a film that is essentially about a tentacle monster ripping through human flesh for about 100 minutes...."
  • Review by Ed Sum at (28 Days Later Analysis) - (6/10) "In space, the sky's the limit and perhaps the greatest danger can be small as an ant to start."

Synopsis (SPOILERS)

 Spoiler Section (Highlight to Read)
A team of astronauts studying a sample of newly-discovered Martian life on a space station near Earth push their experiments too far, allowing the surprisingly robust Martian to escape from the lab and begin killing and eating the scientists one-by-one, leaving a wake of destruction in its path, and hitching a ride with the survivors back to Earth....
