H.P. Lovecraft appears to have been a voracious reader of classic science fiction, fantasy, and especially horror fiction, and could count many authors, such as Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, Edgar Allan Poe, Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Sheridan le Fanu, M.R. James, Algernon Blackwood, Edward Plunkett, 18th Baron Dunsany, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Henry James, William Hope Hodgson, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, etc.; unsurprisingly, these earlier writers' work (and films based on this work) can sometimes come across looking or feeling somewhat "Lovecraftian"....
