Ratings

MPAA Ratings

  • Rated: (not rated) (roughly equivalent to a modern G)

"Family-friendly" by even 1930s standards, though, admittedly, few modern young viewers are likely to have the patience to sit through any film from this era, let alone a fantasy/romantic-comedy.

Tentacle Ratings

A rough measure of how "Lovecraftian" the work is:

  • S____ (One Tentacle: Debateably Lovecraftian; has almost no direct connection to Lovecraft's work)

Really, this is largely "Lovecraftian" only in the sense that Lovecraft seems to have enjoyed this film immensely. With this film's themes of time travel back to an era that Lovecraft seems to have felt suited him better than his own, it is perhaps unsurprising that the author found it appealing. One might detect some vague similarities to "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward (fiction)" and "The Shadow Out of Time (fiction).

Note: This rating is not intended as a measure of quality, merely of how closely related to Lovecraftian "Weird" fiction the work is.

When his prediction comes true, Peter finds himself in 1784, upsetting the household and possibly his own future.
