Ratings

MPAA Ratings

  • Rated: R (Graphic Violence, full fontal Nudity, Sexual Content, Sexual Violence, Adult Content and themes)

This is a fairly nasty little movie in almost every way, and in no way kid-friendly, and it's unlikely that even fans of so-called "torture porn" films will find this one to be a "feel good" movie.

Tentacle Ratings

A rough measure of how "Lovecraftian" the work is:

  • S____ (One Tentacle: Debateably Lovecraftian; has almost no direct connection to Lovecraft's work)

There's nothing really here in this thoroughly repugnant film that I could pin down as precisely "Lovecraftian", but the completely unexplained, weird, silent, immortal girl discovered walled up in an abandoned insane asylum for absolutely no rational reason gave me the surreal, nightmarish creeps in a way that I rarely get struck with, except for some of Lovecraft's nastier little irrational, unearthed Gothic secrets, and I'm willing to give it at least a "tentacle" for the resulting mood.

Note: This rating is not intended as a measure of quality, merely of how closely related to Lovecraftian "Weird" fiction the work is.

Reviews

Review Links:

  • Johnny Butane at DreadCentral, (link) - "...They [the co-directors] knew when to use the “power of suggestion” in certain scenes, and because of the lack of pornographic shots of violence in the first act, it made it that much more shocking and jarring to watch the very explicit and gratuitous second act and climax of the film.... By the time the viewers are witness to an explicit rape scene that’s supposed to invoke as many laughs as Bruce Campbell’s infamous hand fight in Evil Dead 2 did, I was looking at my watch and waiting for the insulting movie to finish."
  • The Revenant Review, (link) - "After watching it, considering its disturbing nature, I couldn’t shake a certain notion that I felt shouldn’t be there... despite its subject matter and all of its flaws... the viewing had been worthwhile... a movie that manages to rise above some of its more mediocre elements. It begins a bit shoddy but progressively becomes more eloquent and enveloping during the second half...."
