An earthquake in the Izu Peninsula of Japan kills 223 people and destroys 650 buildings.
The Karoonda meteorite fell to earth at 10:53 pm near the South Australian town of Karoonda. Adelaide residents reported a huge ball of fire with a flaming tail shooting across the eastern sky.
