Ratings

MPAA Ratings

  • Rated: R (for moderate Violence and generally mild Profanity, Adult Content, and Nudity)

Tentacle Ratings

A rough measure of how "Lovecraftian" the work is:

  • Ss___ (One and a Half Tentacles: Barely Lovecraftian)

It's basically a sort of Evil Dead rip-off, with "Deadite" style demons emerging from a supernatural portal to terrorize an unusually large group of teen victims in a remote cabin in the... mostly treeless hills? as they investigate the strange disappearance of one kid's grandparents. The demonic dialogue is, in comparison to that better-known model, rather conventionally Judeo-Christian in nature, but something approaching the right mood is in there somewhere, and the whole thing could have been converted to a passable Lovecraftian horror with the substitution of a few of the usual references to Yog-Sothoth and the Necronomicon.

Note: This rating is not intended as a measure of quality, merely of how closely related to Lovecraftian "Weird" fiction the work is.

  • Jacob Davison at iHorror: "I think I've found one of the absolute bonkers horror movies to ever enter my eyes and my very soul.... Demon Wind is quite clearly gleamed from more classical 'cabin in the woods' style horror movies like The Evil Dead (1981 franchise) with several characters becoming possessed and mutated, mixed with the gonzo gore and supernatural elements of Lucio Fulci's Gates of Hell Trilogy (1980 franchise) films like City of the Living Dead and The Beyond. Featuring slimy ghouls, bizarre transformations, space and time warps, creating a bizarre mix of archetypes and tropes and so much more…"

Synopsis (SPOILERS)

 Spoiler Section (Highlight to Read)

A man's investigation into his long-dead grandparents' demise leads him and a group of friends to the haunted family farmhouse and a date with a demon and its army of ghouls, who besiege the farmhouse by night and begin killing the characters off one by one in something of a cross between "Evil Dead" and "Night of the Living Dead", while the characters, magically trapped on the property, are unable to leave. It turns out the property was once the retreat for a cult lead by a demonic preacher, and the return of the man to his family's abandoned property puts the pieces in place for the Demon to fulfill its interrupted plan to corrupt and conquer the world.
