Cyäegha's most well-known cult was active in the small German town of Freihausgarten in the 17th century, lasting until 1860 when the cult was disbanded by a young priest who died while battling it. Even so, once a month on the night of the full moon, the descendants of the former cultists are unconsciously drawn to the town's "Dark Hill" by a hypnotic, telepathic pull from Cyäegha, whom they know as "The Dark that Waits". Once there, the unconscious townsfolk are compelled to climb Dark Hill and perform an unspeakable ritual that both appeases and binds Cyäegha to the hill. However, despite performing this ritual every month without fail, the villagers are not even aware that they practice the rite, and continue to fear the mountain and ordinarily avoid it.

Cyäegha (AKA Cyaegha, "The Dark that Waits", "The Darkness that Awaits Us") originates in "Darkness, My Name Is (fiction)" by Eddy C. Bertin.

In the Mythos

The Great Old One Cyäegha is characterized by its supreme nihilism and utter contempt for all things. The being appears as a great, black-bodied, green eye surrounded by a mass of tentacles.

Heresies and Controversies

  • Cyäegha is an earth elemental and is said to be a cousin to Nyogtha, another earth elemental. Cyäegha is also believed to be related to the Great Old One Othuyeg, because each appear alike and have similar habits. Like all the other earth elementals, Cyäegha is adversely affected by the Ankh or Crux Ansata, the Vach-Viraj Ritual, and the Tikkoun Elixir. (Chaosium, possibly Eddy C. Bertin, drawing from August Derlet?)

Cult

There are five small figurines carved in green vulturine which are connected to this cult, representing five demonic spirits - the Feiaden or Vaeyen - which serve and guard Cyäegha, yet bind it to its tomb beneath the hill. the Black Light, the White Fire which is Blacker than Night, the White Darkness that is Redder than Fire, the Winged Woman, and the Green Moon.

The cult may also be unconsciously served by horrible monsters, the Nagäae, which join them from the swamps and other lonely places in the surrounding countryside, delighting in torture and horror.
