The Mothman is sometimes said to refer to itself as "Indrid Cold", a name also linked to a disturbing entity described as "The Grinning Man", who in turn is linked to the Men in Black and to UFOs; the Mothman might be thought of as an "avatar" of some extradimensional entity (perhaps a Mi-Go?) calling itself Indrid Cold, and served by the cult of the Men in Black toward some unknowable purpose outside of time-space as we know it.
According to some reports, the Grinning Man called Indrid Cold came from a planet named Lanulos in the Genemedes galaxy, and that there were two other "grinning men" by the names of Demo Hassan and Karl Ardo; other eyewitness reports describe the Grinning Man as exceptionally tall and bald, and with no ears or nose. Still other reports linked the Grinning Man to poltergeist activity and the appearance of strange lights.
