Synopsis

The back story to the campaign is as follows.

M'Weru, a priestess of Nyarlathotep, entranced a New York playboy, Roger Carlyle. Carlyle travelled to Egypt with his companions:

  • Hypatia Masters
  • Dr Robert Huston
  • Sir Aubrey Penhew
  • Jack Brady

In Egypt, they met Nyarlathotep who promised to reward them if they followed his plan to open a Great Gate to our world. Hypatia became pregnant with his monstrous spawn.

The expedition continued to Kenya. Hypatia was taken to the Mountain of the Black Wind where she waits for the birth. Brady, not a cultist, abducted his friend Carlyle to protect him.

Huston left for Australia to search for the City of the Great Ones. Penhew went to Shanghai to build a rocket. Brady told the writer, Jackson Elias, about the cults.

When the campaign begins, Elias has been murdered by cultists. To thwart the plan to open the Gate, the Investigators must follow up on the clues left in his apartment and travel the world to the key locations.
