Ratings

MPAA Ratings

  • Rated: (not rated) (comparable to an R for Violence, Profanity and Adult Content, Nudity and Sexual Content, Sexual Violence, etc.)

Tentacle Ratings

A rough measure of how "Lovecraftian" the work is:

  • S____ (One Tentacle: Debateably Lovecraftian; has almost no direct connection to Lovecraft's work)

Not exactly a "Lovecraftian" film in the sense of being based on any of Lovecraft's work or containing references to his creations, though some viewers may find the location and atmosphere suggestive of Lovecraft's work (an "Eldritch Location" film).

Note: This rating is not intended as a measure of quality, merely of how closely related to Lovecraftian "Weird" fiction the work is.

Reviews

  • Mark Pelligrini at Adventures in Poor Taste, (link) - "...The atmosphere in Antichrist is superb, relying heavily on discomforting ambient sound... and crafting an overall sense of isolation that few movies can equal. The supernatural elements are sparse and often times pointless nonsense..., though certain visuals are freaky-enough to make you lean away from your television set.... Antichrist is touted... as a 'battle of the sexes', but when it comes to who it’s tempting the audience to root for, the end result is a fairly lopsided portrayal.... What we’re left with is a very unusual 'lesson' that I just don’t think I understood correctly... at the end of the day, what Antichrist seems to want to tell me is that 'women are evil and you should hit them.' That… that can’t be right...."
