Nophru-Ka (AKA "The Black Pharaoh"), first mentioned in Keith Herber's scenario "The Brotherhood of the Beast", apparently a typo for Nephren-Ka which was apparently corrected in later versions.
In the Mythos
In the Thirteenth Dynast (c. 1733 BCE) Nophru-Ka, a Nyarlathotep-worshipper, founds an Egyptian separatist movement. He tries to overthrow Pharaoh Khasekhemre Neferhotep I, but is slain by that ruler. Nophru-Ka's followers are later killed by Shudde-M'ell and his spawn, but his line continues on, eventually leading to "The Brotherhood of the Beast".
By some accounts, Nophru-Ka is the son of Khephren and Nitokris, and undying vessel for the "reincarnation" (mind-transfer) of Nephren-Ka (Nophru-Ka would be 500 years during the Thirteenth Dynasty!)
Heresies and Controversies
- Nephren-Ka / Nophru-Ka may be been re-incarnated at some point as "The Black Pharaoh" Khotep, at the end of the Sixth Dynasty of Egypt. ("Curse of the Black Pharaoh," Lin Carter)
- Nephren-Ka seems to have been reincarnated numerous times through history down his blood-line, including an incarnation as a cult-leader masquerading as Harry Houdini's guide in "Under the Pyramids (fiction)" (YSDC, inspired by "Under the Pyramids")
