Spawn of Abhoth

The Spawn of Abhoth (AKA "Children of Abhoth", "Unknown Things") originate in Clark Ashton Smith's "The Seven Geases (fiction)" (1934), and developed for Chaosium by Scott David Aniolowski.

Description

There were things which he could only liken to monstrous one-legged toads, and myriad-tailed worms, and miscreated lizards. They came flopping or crawling through the gloom in a ceaseless procession; and there was no end to the loathsome morphologic variations which they displayed.

Misshapen creatures generated by the Outer God Abhoth, the primeval source of all uncleanness who dwelt in the cavern of Y'quaa beneath Mount Voormithadreth in Hyperborea. The Spawn are constantly sloughed off of Abhoth in countless primitive and often incomplete forms, only for most to be scooped up and re-asorbed back into their parent, though some of the more advanced and intelligent Spawn escape to wander the tunnels of the Hollow Earth, while others remain in Y'quaa to serve their parent. In one recorded encounter with these creatures, they proved to be relatively harmless, but other investigators may not be so fortunate.

Heresies and Controversies

• It has been suggested repeatedly that Abhoth may be identical with, or related to, the primal demiurge Ubbo-Sathla. If this is the case, the Spawn of Abhoth may be identical with, or related to, the amoebic archetypes of all earthly life procreated by Ubbo-Sathla.
