<s>When producing links, if we go with the above system, we should categorize.  This consists of making your links look like this: <nowiki>[[game:Call of Cthulhu|Call of Cthulhu]], [[fiction:Call of Cthulhu|Call of Cthulhu]], etc.</nowiki>.  This produces the following, which are separate, categorized entries: [[game:Call of Cthulhu|Call of Cthulhu]] and [[fiction:Call of Cthulhu|Call of Cthulhu]]. --[[User:Squashua|Squashua]] 13:46, 19 January 2006 (EST)</s>

**How will we differentiate between the ''real life'' literary discussion of themes and tropes, and the entries that are like those in [[Encyclopedia Cthulhiana]]? --[[User:Jeff Campbell|Jeff Campbell]] 10:39, 2 February 2006 (EST)

***If we separate fact vs. fiction within the scope of each entry, we should be fine.  To every factual entry, we can have a "So and So within the Cthulhu Mythos" section.  This could easily work for Historic Locations/Figures, etc.  Items that have both fact and fiction entries, such as [[Aleister Crowley]] might (as he appears in [[Golden Dawn (Adventure)]]), can be listed under the category of both [[:Category:Historical Occultists]] and [[:Category:Tenebrous Persons]] --[[User:Squashua|Squashua]] 11:13, 2 February 2006 (EST)
I like this, but I am not sure how to work it into what I am doing- I guess I am doing in-game information, but I am not sure how it would differ from glossary type information, if it does. I will await comments on the Mythos Vade Mecum, I guess.--[[User:Jeff Campbell|Jeff Campbell]] 23:11, 25 January 2006 (EST)

Well, I have already run into a problem that is perfectly fixed by Squashua's suggestion. The [[Necronomicon]] page is great if you are curious about the literary history of it, but putting quotes and spells there would be just confusing. So I will pick the category link, myth. Here is my test of it. [[myth:Call of Cthulhu|Call of Cthulhu]]--[[User:Jeff Campbell|Jeff Campbell]] 23:30, 25 January 2006 (EST)

I thought that I had posted this, but I guess not. I have changed the categories in the Mythos Vade Mecum to Vade Mecum (which means handbook, or textbook). Make sure you capitalize both words; it is case specific, as I found out! --[[User:Jeff Campbell|Jeff Campbell]] 14:00, 29 January 2006 (EST)

Front Page Edits

At this point I think it makes more sense to allow your current contributors to develop a more solid design for the front page, as seen below. Once the page has a decent format covering many of the contributions it would be OK to lock it up again.

As it stands, someone not too familiar with Wikis would have a tough time finding some of the current pages. -phobia

Organization

Clean up the front page list; use a table; check out: http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/Main_Page as an example. --Squashua 17:24, 18 January 2006 (EST)

Changing the URL

I'd like to suggest changing the URL. Currently the URL is under a wiki subdirectory of Yog-Sothoth. I am under the impression that the laws have changed so that if you OWN a url, you own *.yoururl.com; meaning that this could be changed so that the primary website at www.yog-sothoth.com directs to the PHPNuke site, and that [b]wiki.yog-sothoth.com[/b] directs to the wiki. --Squashua 09:01, 19 January 2006 (EST)

Main Page Updates

The Main Page is now unprotected.

wiki.yog-sothoth.com leads to the wiki.

CATEGORIZE!

  • I think that the category Cthulhu Mythos would be better than Mythos Vade Mecum; it is much clearer.

Basic Wiki Rules

Need to establish basic wiki rules of use/conduct. Make sure that people know how to use the wiki. I recomment signing any comment you make as follows: append "--~~~~"; this will produce a signature like the one that follows this paragraph. --Squashua 13:48, 19 January 2006 (EST)

The Date/Year Pages

I see that a lot of information has been extracted from the original Wikipedia. Since this is simply a smaller, more-focused, and less-travelled wiki, I recommend that you remove the year pages and stick with each era: 1890s, 1920s, Modern, and link individual years as necessary, leaving only what information would be relevant to the Cthulhu Mythos. The enormous linked list of deaths, etc. is overkill. To summarize: I would recommend cleaning out these pages, outside-linking to the relevant Wikipedia entry from a centralized era page, and keeping internal links as needed. --Squashua 10:46, 31 January 2006 (EST)
