3rd Edition Comments / Trivia

This book, together with the Spielleiter-Handbuch, Dritte Edition constitutes the core rules for the 2011 German edition of Call of Cthulhu. The Spieler-Handbuch (Player Handbook) has all the rules and game-mechanics and information on the 1920s, while the Spielleiter-Handbuch (Keeper Handbook) has all the mythos related material (i.e. creatures, spells, scenarios, advice for running the game, ...).

It includes material from the The 1920's Investigator's Companion and the The Keeper's Companion, Vol. 1 as well as the The Keeper's Companion, Vol. 2.

Limited Edition: It was first released in december 2010 as a limited edition (1000 copies) with a different cover and higher production values.

Changes to the 2nd Edition: The rules itself haven't changed much but enough that this book is a true update on the prior edition. The main changes are changes to the stats of the occupations. The whole text has been looked over and was clarified where neccessary. This includes the equipment lists at the end of the book, in particular the present-day list. Also this edition has four new occupations: the cryptozoologist, the excorzist, the carney and the stage-magician. The character sheet was further improved. The article on the German cthulhu-scene was updated. And a new chapter with advice for entering the world of cthulhu was added. [1]

Rules compared to CoC 6th: This edition has also some minor rule updates compared to Chaosium's 6th edition. Namely the adjusted base chances for skills (from the Investigator's Companion), revised weapon stats (from Pegasus Press' Waffenhandbuch) and new chase rules. According to Frank Heller (Editor) all those changes were supposed to be included in the next American edition - this was before the plan for Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition was realeased and before Lynn Willis passed away, so it might no longer be true.
