New page

Vattanian (alternate spellings: Vattan) is a language from Alexandre Saint-Yves d'Alveydre's Theosophical work, Mission de l'Inde en Europe.
In the Mythos
Vattanian (or "Vattan") is supposedly the primitive source of all the languages in the world, the 22 letters of Vattan being evidently the source for the equivalents of most of the Hebrew and the Sanskrit alphabets. The Vattanian language is the language of Agartha in the Hollow Earth.

Compared to an English alphabet, Vattanian symbols show a lack of corresponding letters between English or other European languages and the Vattanian symbols that are available - specifically, the letters f,i,j,q,u,w and x do not exist in Vattanian, and some ligatures/digraphs (ou, ts, sh, th) exist in Vattanian and not in English.

Heresies and Controversies
Optional. This is a good place to include non-canon and controversial aspects of the Location's mythos. Suggested Alternative Theories include: Derleth's elemental scheme; pseudo-science interpretation; "fanon" interpretations; unofficial humorous or eccentric takes on the mythos like Lovecraft's family tree; identification with "Real Life" mythological, religious, folklore, natural, and historical phenomena; rumor and speculation contribute some flexibility and ambiguity to the mythos.
Keeper Notes
Optional. Suggestions for using this deity in the CoC RPG, and in fan-fiction.
