===Synopsis===
In the 1830s Nicholas Forby was an artist whose masterwork, ''Icarus'', was molded over a living man. He suspected that his wife Alice was having an affair with his friend, Christopher Lehmann, and that his son, Aleister, was actually a result of this romance. Eventually knowing that his suspicions were true, he murdered Lehmann and molded a bronze statue over his friend's corpse, hiding the secrets of his revolutionary molding technique within the statue's chest, forbidding his son to profit from his work. In his deathbed, mad and mourning his actions, he asked to see his friend once again, triggering a curse on his own family. The ''Icarus'' awoke and strangled him.

During the 1860s the cycle repeated itself. Aleister, more and more obsessed in finding the family treasure, got stricken by unbearable pain, and when Dr. Hubert Jeffries came to see him, his wife Rhoda fell in love with the man. Around the same time, Aleister finally discovered the secret about his heritage and the crime committed by Nicholas. Ashamed and insane, even as ''Icarus'' came for him, he shot himself in the head, the corpse being found by his son, Harry.

Now the cycle is about to repeat again. When Harry succumbs to the hereditary illness, his wife Gertrude asks an old friend for help, and as the investigators arrive, she immediately falls in love with one of them. Feverish Harry believes his grandfather hid an emerald (in fact, a bronze egg, green with verdigris, containing the metal alloy and casting techniques) somewhere in the grounds, and wants to find it desperately. Meanwhile, John Meddler, Harry's brother-in-law, is also aware of the family treasure and, hearing about the curse of the "green man", he plans a hoax to drive Harry insane or to commit suicide. As the search for the treasure advances, so does Harry's nervousness, and he is put under great peril, both supernatural and mundane.
