The "squasholiger" is a strange creature of American folklore that spends part of its life disguised as a squash, gourd, pumpkin, or other such vegetable; it grows to an enormous size, whereupon its eyes, mouth, and legs are formed, allowing it to detach from the vine and creep away. By some accounts, the squasholiger is peaceful, staying around the area it grew up in to eat insects and other pests, but in other accounts, it is a sort of vampire which feeds upon people in the area - usually not the farmer who grew it, who may remain strangely untouched by the beast while everyone else withers and dies.
==Keeper Notes==
<!-- Optional. Suggestions for using these creatures in the CoC RPG, and in fan-fiction. -->
<!-- Optional. This is a good place to include non-canon and controversial aspects of the creature's mythos. Suggested Alternative Theories include: Derleth's elemental scheme; pseudo-science interpretation; "fanon" interpretations; unofficial humorous or eccentric versions; identification with "Real Life" mythological, religious, folklore, natural, and historical phenomena; rumor and speculation contribute some flexibility and ambiguity to the mythos. -->
