The Lemurian race, native to the lost continents of [[Lemuria]] and early [[Atlantis]], were grotesque, misshapen primordial giants at first fashioned from gelatinous and ethereal bodies after emerging from the [[Astral Plane]], which served as a sort of progenitor race for the human race, before slowly evolving - or being reshaped by their own or other, more alien races - into the more familiar material form of pre-humans which would, in their time, evolve into the likes of Neanderthal and Cro-Magnon man.

In their more primordial form the Lemurian race were gigantic, quasi-amphibian/reptilian/piscine, almost shapeless, darkly gelatinous creatures with misshapen heads, three eyes (one, the pineal eye, in the back of the giant's shapeless head), and difficulty standing or walking completely erect. They would later decrease in size, devolve the pineal eye into a purely astral/psychic organ, become more solidly material and more recognizably mammalian, and in time become indistinguishable from primitive forms of man.

The beings for most of their reign over Lemuria held a crude and undeveloped form of art, and had a bestial, almost vampiric diet - existing largely by drinking blood and eating the soft internal organs of animals. Nevertheless, they were also remarkably skilled innovators and builders, building cyclopean basalt cities and buildings on a massive scale and with great architectural skill, such as the foundations of what in time would become the great [[Atlantis|Atlantean]] capital City of the Golden Gates, and the Atlantean and Lemurian technologies by many perhaps un-exaggerated accounts also included perfecting the art of iron-working, developing advanced breeding technologies involving artificial heat and coloured lights to alter the form and nature of domesticated animals (and presumably themselves) into many of the bewildering varieties of forms which prehistoric - as well as modern and even mythical - life can be found to have taken, and creating networks of global trade and colonization using gigantic ships and "air boats", powered by sheer will through the race's advanced skills in magic and sorcery; in fact, their skill in - and addiction to - black magick was said to have been what rendered the last inhuman members of the race extinct by causing the entire continent of Atlantis itself to sink beneath the waves in a catastrophe resulting from some botched magickal working.

The progress of the Lemurians is said to have been guided by the mysterious "Nagas" through the establishment of cults in Lemuria and Atlantis; this race has been variously identified by scholars as possibly being the [[Serpent People]], [[Great Race of Yith]], [[Leviathan]]s, [[Deep One]]s, [[Star-Spawn of Cthulhu]] and even [[Cthulhu]] itself, and there is, perhaps, some truth to all of these theories.
