While exploring a pitch-black location with only a small light, the investigator slips and nearly tumbles into an open pit, losing their only light source in the fall. Scrambling blind for another light source, he hears something climbing up through the pit. Just when the investigator finds a light, they see a shadow, which attacks and casts the area back into darkness. But with each match lit, the creature recoils, although not before attacking the investigator's own shadow. The investigator eventually gets a steady light source and flees. However, the mortal's leg hurts, and when they reach the surface, they see that a chunk has been torn out of the shadow of their leg.
