* The alien in the movie was designed, built and portrayed by Paul Blaisdell, who affectionately dubbed his creation "Beluah"; it would be one of his most famous and popular creations. Originally, "Beluah" was built as a beet-red, squat, flat-topped creature, under the mistaken belief that Venus had higher gravity than Earth's (it doesn't; Venus' gravity is slightly less than ours). When it turned out not to be imposing enough - and to actually be shorter than leading lady Beverly Garland, who remarked sarcastically when she first saw the monster "THAT conquered the world?", a tapering conical top was added to it. Arguably, the results of this modification are even more comical than the original monster would have been. Among the numerous names the crew gave the monster were the "the Cucumber Critter", and "the Carrot Monster", but "Beluah" is actually supposed to be a fungus.
