Not particularly "Lovecraftian", though there are some similarities to what I've been categorizing as "Eldritch Location" films; this film may have been an influence upon those later films. The characters exploring hallucinatory after-death experiences and "summoning" nightmarish hallucinations can be roughly compared to the Lovecraftian cliche' of characters studying forbidden tomes and summoning tentacle-monsters, though the presence of a "moral of the story" is antithetical to Lovecraft's world view. A loose comparison might also be drawn to "[[From Beyond (fiction)]]".<br />
