"Fiction or fact? The ominously accurate science fiction series." A short-lived science fiction BBC series from The '70s. Spencer Quist is the head of the Department for the Observation and Measurement of Scientific Work, or "Doomwatch," a government agency which investigates the deadly dangers of unchecked scientific progress in topical stories about embryonic research, noise pollution, animal exploitation, and other issues. The series was not renewed past its third series and, as was standard BBC practice, many of the show's master tapes were wiped; a 1972 film was made (AKA ''Island of the Ghouls'' in the U.S.), and a tv-movie pilot for an attempted reboot was made in 1999.

Not very "Lovecraftian", though the series does seem to follow the basic "supernatural detective" format found in the ''Call of Cthulhu'' RPG, and the typical environmental/industrial/science disaster format could perhaps be adapted to either a Mythos-Lite/Non-Mythos campaign, or be modified to a more traditional ''Call of Cthulhu'' adventure format with the addition of mythos elements being involved in the stories (for example, the plot of the 1972 film about an isolated island village hostile to outsiders and contaminated by dumping of toxic waste could easily be changed to an Innsmouth-like setting full of Deep One-hybrid victims of industrial waste....)
