Based on one of the stories of Lovecraft influence [[William Hope Hodgson]]; the story, though gloomy in outlook and suitably loaded with body horror, isolation, anxiety, horror, and nasty Gothic secrets, is not very Lovecraftian, though still an interesting look into the sort of story that Lovecraft would have enjoyed reading; this made-for-TV adaptation no doubt adds a romantic subplot that might not have been in the original story (which this cataloger has not yet read), but it's unobtrusive and actually seems to add to the oppressive atmosphere, bleak ending, and the dark secrets that seem to fit the outcome quite well: if the subplot is an addition from the screenplay writers, it was a good one. Based on the other adaptation of this story which I have seen, ''[[Matango: The Mushroom People (1963 film)]]'', this short film seems likely to be a reasonably faithful (and perhaps very faithful) adaptation of the original story.<br />
