''Great Old Ones'' is modeled after  Chaosium's [[Mythos]] and Fantasy Flight Games' [[Call of Cthulhu CCG]], although they are not officially connected. It is not necessary to have either of those games to play this game.

''Great Old Ones'' is a print-and-play game, with the game made available on a web page and printed by players, who must also provide any other required accessories (such as dice.) Unlike most other print-and-play games, the cards for this game are not laid out in a ready-to-print format. Players are expected to take the raw card data provided and format it themselves.
