That which is currently known about Augustus Samuel Darcy is as follows:

His father is a solicitor and he was born in Thetford in November, 1897 and has a sister who is three years his junior. He went to school in Ely where he met Amery Greville. He served in the Great War (meeting Greville on the Vimy Ridge) and afterwards graduated in History from the University of Oxford before working as a freelance journalist in London.

Darcy was a magician and member of an occult organisation known only as [[The Brotherhood]]. In 1933 they commissioned him to write a guide for members visiting the capital. It appears that he discovered a dark organisation in London's occult underbelly and it is possible he became involved with a [[The Magical War|Magical War]]. A few months later he was dead.

This proved to be a French [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pangram Pangram]; 'Portez ce vieux whisky au juge blond qui fume', which translates as 'Go take this old whisky to the blond judge who smokes'.

It is unclear whether this is simply to demonstrate all of the Enochian letters or has some deeper significance. It is odd that a French pangram was used instead of the more traditional 'Quick Brown Fox' which would seem more appropriate for an Englishman. As yet the phrase in either English or French has not been linked to anything.

Attached to this is an entry from Darcy's papers relating to Piccadilly which is written in some form of cipher.

As yet there has been no solution to the cipher. One option which appears to have been disproven was the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trithemius_cipher Trithemius cipher] in which the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cipher_Manuscripts Golden Dawn documents] were encoded. The Golden Dawn appear to be involved with the circumstances surrounding Darcy's death so the link to the cipher seemed a good idea. At this point it seems probable that this is some form of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vigen%C3%A8re_cipher Vigenère cipher] in which case a solution seems unlikely without the correct code word or phrase.

The Club has its roots in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woolwich_Polytechnic Woolwich Polytechnic]. Owing to the Polytechnic's proximity to the Arsenal it was intended to have a strong engineering bent but this might be carried a little far by certain members of the student body. The Club works to produce ever more life-like automata culminating with a Father Christmas who, owing to an unfortunate reindeer malfunction, ended his career in the Thames at the hands of the Woolwich Ferry.

The Club seems harmless, eccentric but not particularly dangerous. However, two of their members were recently apprehended having caused a disturbance in the cloisters of University College London. When searched they proved to be carrying a bag containing tools, a clockwork electricity generator and a Fourteenth Century Grimoire. Under the entry on UCL there is a mention of a recent attempt to break into the case containing the embalmed body of [http://www.who2.com/blog/2010/12/a-professor-explains-jeremy-benthams-corpse-for-you.html Jeremy Bentham] which is housed in the South Cloisters. Could these young rips have been looking to re-animate the body? And to what end?

The Cipher

One of the clues to the [[Murder of Augustus Darcy]] is a map of London marked with mysterious symbols and lines. The map has been cut into sections and circles have been cut out of the various sections. At the centre of the circles is a tube station and on each circle is a mysterious symbol.

Two types of circle have been discovered so far. One type bears a phrase from [http://hermetic.com/enochia/calls.html The Enochian Calls] used by Dr Dee and later Aleister Crowley (who appears in the [[Liber Fumo de Frater Vigilo|Liber Fumo]]. These are a sequence of angelic summonings which refer to cataclysms and a day of judgement. The others bear the name of an Aethyr, angelic presences mentioned in much of Crowley's writing and particularly [http://hermetic.com/crowley/libers/Liber418.pdf Liber 418]. The list of each Call and Aethyr is below, there are 18 Calls or Keys and 30 Aethyr.

As yet there no connections has been determined between the Aethyr and the stations they sit upon or the Aethyr and the Calls to which they are connected. It seems likely that the Aethyr represent gates or sites of power which the different calls will awaken. Considering the apocalyptic nature of the Calls it would seem that someone of some group is attempting to awaken a significant power beneath London. This is probably linked to the [http://www.caerleon.net/history/geoffrey/Prophecy1.htm Prophecies of Merlin] mentioned in the [[Liber Fumo de Frater Vigilo|Liber Fumo]] and seemingly connected to the magical war that is hinted at in the entries. This is currently speculation based on hints in the Liber and the text of the Calls. More of the map may be neccessary to determine the nature of the connections between stations, Aethyr and Calls. The idea of a mystical power linked across London by its buildings and locations is not a new one. After the Great Fire the naturalist, bibliophile, Royalist and scientist [http://www.bl.uk/onlinegallery/features/evelynnotes.html Sir John Evelyn] offered a plan for the rebuilding of London which was based on the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabbalah Kabbalah]. This plan is mentioned on the very first pages of Darcy's Guide and may well have inspired the magical plot.

At this moment there is one other piece which is not a circle but is still part of the overall pattern. This part shows the [[City of London Map Piece|City of London]].

This proved to be a French [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pangram Pangram]; 'Portez ce vieux whisky au juge blond qui fume', which translates as 'Go take this old whisky to the blond judge who smokes'.

It is unclear whether this is simply to demonstrate all of the Enochian letters or has some deeper significance. It is odd that a French pangram was used instead of the more traditional 'Quick Brown Fox' which would seem more appropriate for an Englishman. As yet the phrase in either English or French has not been linked to anything.

Attached to this is an entry from Darcy's papers relating to Piccadilly which is written in some form of cipher.

As yet there has been no solution to the cipher. One option which appears to have been disproven was the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trithemius_cipher Trithemius cipher] in which the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cipher_Manuscripts Golden Dawn documents] were encoded. The Golden Dawn appear to be involved with the circumstances surrounding Darcy's death so the link to the cipher seemed a good idea. At this point it seems probable that this is some form of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vigen%C3%A8re_cipher Vigenère cipher] in which case a solution seems unlikely without the correct code word or phrase.

Augustus Samuel Darcy was born at Thetford, Norfolk in November 1897, the son of a solicitor. his sister Ethel was born three years later. While at school at Ely, Cambridgeshire he met his lifelong friend and literary executor, Amery Greville.

After service in the Great War, Darcy graduated in History from the University of Oxford and worked as a freelance journalist in London. A talented but sadly unrecognised writer, he kept company with many of the leading occultists of the age including Aleister Crowley, Rollo Ahmed and Dion Fortune.

Darcy was himself a practicing magician and a leading member of an occult organisation known only as [[The Brotherhood]]. In 1933 they commissioned him to write a guide for members visiting the capital. In the course of his research, Darcy discovered dark forces gathering in London and predicted a [[The Magical War|Magical War]]. A few months later he was dead. The cause of his death was never established.
