Tentacle Ratings
A rough measure of how "Lovecraftian" the work is:
- SS___ (Two Tentacles: sort of Lovecraftian)
I've not yet seen this film. The premise of a party of investigators seeking a translation to the Necronomicon to stop a cult of witches seems "Lovecraftian" enough on paper, but the film trailer looks a bit less so in action than perhaps I'd ideally like: from the trailer, it looks like it might be more of an action/adventure film than a cosmic horror film. Still, the trailer has got just enough of that Evil Dead/Army of Darkness feeling to it that it might still work on this level.
Note: This rating is not intended as a measure of quality, merely of how closely related to Lovecraftian "Weird" fiction the work is.

Notes
Comments, Trivia, Dedication
- There are a couple short films made by the same director, based on the work of Edgar Allan Poe, which seem to have been associated with this film series:
- BERENICE (1997) - (Apparently based on the Edgar Allan Poe story about a man who becomes obsessed with his dying wife's teeth, the only part of her which has not been ravaged by the deterioration of a mysterious illness.)
- THE OVAL MIRROR (1997) - A minor car accident forces a man to search for assistance in a desolated mansion. Inside he finds nothing but a strange portrait of a beautiful woman. (Based on a story by Edgar Allan Poe)
