Description

Scene from "The Space Eaters" episode of Monsters, successor to Tales from the Darkside (1983 series)...

From the ceiling to the floor it towered, and it threw off blinding light.... In the center of the room between the ceiling and the floor, the pages whirled about and the light burned through the sheets, and descending in spiraling shafts entered the brain of my poor friend. Into his head, the light was pouring in a continuous stream, and above, the Master of the light moved with a slow swaying of its entire bulk. — Frank Belknap Long, “The Space Eaters”

Space-Eaters are a malevolent space-faring race, generally formless and incorporeal, appearing as luminous white forms like dim lightning bolts, stretched out across space, and capable of forming long, thin, temporary limbs and fingers with which to interact with matter, such as hunting for victims. The Space-Eaters "eat" their way through space and time with an eerie droning noise, and can eat through matter as well, disintegrating perfectly round holes through material obstacles, such as human skulls (through which Space-Eaters might eat to get at the brains of their victims.) Elder Signs are capable of repelling Space-Eaters, as is the sign of the cross, and bright light.
